Originally conceived as a gift to the writer's grandchildren, this memoir is a compilation of recollections spanning decades. The story begins in the late 1940s.

"Growing up on a West Flamborough farm in the shadow of World War II," writes the author, "rural life was hard but uncomplicated and filled with adventure."

Later chapters describe teenage adventures and the challenges of parenthood in the 1960s; followed by tales of sailing Atlantic coasts, hiking Scotland's highlands, and canoeing Canada's French River.
